The Evaluation Conclave
2010
“ Making Evaluation Matter”
25-28 October 2010, New Delhi, India
A new vision is emerging of how evaluation can serve
development. The diverse and dynamic challenges of development
bring in new and more complex questions for evaluation to answer.
The growing focus on application and learning is redefining the
way evaluation is perceived and practiced. Innovative approaches
and methodologies are emergin .To further this vision, a vibrant
evaluation community must constantly engage with and create space
for critique, debate, and analysis. This calls for greater participation
and dialogue amongst evaluation practitioners and users of evaluation.
The evaluation conclave is designed to contribute to this vision.
Who should come?
The event will attract global thinkers engaged in cutting edge evaluation research,
theorizing, or practice who seek opportunities to push their thinking in
new directions and are interested in applying ideas in a South Asian context.
The conclave will bring together sector experts, leading practitioners, thought
leaders and development professionals from across the globe.
It will include leading development theorists, activists
and policy makers from South Asia to embed discussions in current
development issues and contexts that evaluation must respond to.
This event will be the first-of-its-kind in South Asia. The conclave
will become a regular event on the global evaluation calendar.
What is the theme of the Conclave?
"Making Evaluation Matter" is the theme for the conclave. 2010. The
theme embodies an idea of evaluation that starts with relevance and context,
with a strong understanding of who evaluation should serve. The theme also reflects
an attempt to move away from the methodological polarization currently characterizing
the field of evaluation. The theme is methodology neutral, though the need for
more innovation in mixed-methods approaches is recognized. Rather than starting
from methods, the conclave will examine broader issues of evaluation use and
questions deliberate on how evaluation community is, or should begin, addressing
these questions.
For registration contact Ms.Rebika
Laishram, email contact@evaluationconclave.org.

– IMPORTANT
UPDATE –
International Program Evaluation Network (IPEN) 10th
annual conference in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – September 24-25,
2010.
Pre-conference workshops – September 23rd. The conference theme this
year is "Design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation
systems."
IPEN Board and Organizing Committee inform
that the 10th International Conference "Development and
Implementation of M&E Systems" on September 23-25,
2010 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan is cancelled.
This cancellation is due to difficult political situation
in Kyrgyzstan. Street riots in April 2010 led to the fall President
and dissolution of Parliament. There are pending constitution referendum
and presidential and parliamentary elections. It is expected that
political tensions will again peak in the end of summer and in
fall of this year. Organizers of the conference believe that political
confrontation will remain legal and peaceful. However organizers
feel that they won't be able to ensure safety of the conference
participants if political confrontation escalates in September
and thus they have decided to cancel the conference .
Organizing Committee and IPEN Board express gratitude
to all organizations and individual evaluation specialists who
have contributed to organization of the conference .
Organizing Committee and IPEN Board have made a decision
to conduct separate local events on the topic of the conference
on September 23-25, 2010. The exact dates and locations of these
events will be announced
ASAP.
